What I’m Reading in June

Even if there were to be a parenting handbook written, I’m fairly certain it will be instructions for one kid who belongs to one set of parents during one season of their life at one point in time. The beauty of who we are as people is that we’re all individuals but that’s also the challenge, right? There’s no one way to parent. There’s no one way to be a kid either. Each one of us is unique with our own specific backgrounds of culture and heritage and skills and gifts and family and values…well, you get the point.

In today’s world, it’s easy to become overwhelmed and even paralyzed by the constant flow of parenting advice. We’re flooded with so much practical information that we wonder if we’re choosing the right way. And we may be missing the one thing God really wants us to give to our children: His life.

I frequently have friends ask me what I’m reading or what I recommend, so hopefully, these posts are helpful in giving you some ideas. If there’s a certain topic you’re looking for, let me know and I’ll see if I can direct you to a book. 🙂

Being a life-long learner and bookwormish means I read some pretty random things sometimes. I mean, if I run out of stuff, I read the backs of cereal boxes or car magazines. Sometimes it doesn’t even matter if it is stuff I agree with or not. I really think we can learn something from everything.

Here’s my June Book:

So this thing that we do as parents, it’s not easy. Whether we have one kid or a dozen, they’re all different with their own thoughts and personalities and influences. I’m thankful for the resources available through the experiences that others share from their family stories as well as the lessons they have learned. Sally Clarkson has written many books and spoken on many stages to women around the world and through the screen of our phones about parents. She speaks in a timely context, connecting where she’s been with what’s happening now.
