What I’m Reading in May

I love reading different perspectives on things related to goals and goal-setting. There doesn’t seem to be one way to “get there,” wherever “there” is for each person but one common thing I hear from people who are starting out to those who are even considered experts in their fields/industries, is that they still sometimes face fear before a new project or launching a new product or speaking in front of an audience. It’s intriguing to me that people who have spoken hundreds of times in front of thousands of people would feel fear, but it’s true. I think the difference is that they understand the importance of their message and stand behind whatever they want to share. I have a thing or two to learn.

Courage is a daily decision – one that requires the willingness to act, even in the face of fear, and to keep taking steps toward your goals, even when you’re not always sure where the path is going to lead.

I frequently have friends ask me what I’m reading or what I recommend, so hopefully, these posts are helpful in giving you some ideas. If there’s a certain topic you’re looking for, let me know and I’ll see if I can direct you to a book. 🙂

Being a life-long learner and bookwormish means I read some pretty random things sometimes. I mean, if I run out of stuff, I read the backs of cereal boxes or car magazines. Sometimes it doesn’t even matter if it is stuff I agree with or not. I really think we can learn something from everything.

Here’s my MONTH Book:

📚 *Do It Scared by Ruth Soukup

I don’t necessarily think I don’t take action because of fear. Having read Sensitive and Strong, it confirms that I really like to analyze the situation before I decide on things. Sometimes it’s based on fear and/or caution but other times it’s just because I’m still making a list. I’m looking forward to seeing what Ruth has to say about all of this because I think I took the assessment and it might have said I’m a procrastinator. I’ll have to look at that again before I start reading. 🙂

Usually, in this section of the blog post, I share why I chose to add a book to my book list but I’m going to grab the questions from the Amazon description.

Want to Know if This Book is for You?

  • Do you ever feel like life is passing you by?
  • Have you ever let fear hold you back from pursuing a goal or dream?
  • Do you ever worry about making a mistake or getting it wrong?
  • Have you ever felt like you’re not even sure what you really want out of life, but you know it’s something?
  • Do you ever envy people who dare to do the things you don’t dare to do?
  • Have you ever said no when you wished you dared say yes?
  • Have you ever felt regret for a chance or an opportunity you didn’t take?
  • Do you ever worry about what other people might say if you tried something new?
  • Have you ever felt like there must be something more out there for you?

The truth is that fear impacts each of us in a slightly different way, but if the answer to any of those questions is yes, then Do It Scared contains the message–and the practical solution–that you need to hear.

There you have it, my book for May 2020. I’ve also been pre-reading a few books for launches as well as other highly recommended reads so you’ll probably see them here and there on social media. Follow along on my FB page and/or IG account for some inspiring quotes or more of my thoughts as I read.
