The Declutter Experience – More Spring Clearing!

A LOOK BACK

The first 3 months of the year, I hosted 1 cycle of decluttering challenge groups – The Great Declutter in a small private Facebook group in January, Declutter This or That in a Facebook Event in February, The Declutter Experience in a bigger private Facebook group in March. In April, I restarted the cycle. It seemed like the odds were against us with all the donation places closed during the shelter-in-place order but we pushed through to getting lost of stuff out of our home and/or ready to sell/donate it comes time! I learned a lot with another round of the first two groups and hope to use that knowledge and feedback for what’s ahead.

A LOOK AHEAD

For the month of June, we will be doing another round of The Declutter Experience! In March we tried this out and it was great. We hope to gain more momentum as we are once again finding places and people who are taking donations. I know it will be another time of transition as kids are off on summer break and a new season is upon us. If you aren’t already in the group, make sure you get connected. Also, I’m testing out a new accountability group that is an extension of the small group I host for an added layer of accountability!! I’m finding more and more that the programs and checklists are great, but if anyone is looking to make traction and take action, there needs to be a little more focus and planning…not a whole lot more, there is life to live of course…but that’s exactly the reason we need to put our intentions into motion.

I went for some quick 5-minute wins in May. We were transferring stuff out from this past school year and extra supplies in another area. Some stuff left our house and some just moved.

And here’s the after which is a lot better. Really, space is probably not the real problem in our house but where items are stored and if they fit in the space we do have. I’m learning to “name” the spaces so that like items are together. It makes it so much easier to make decluttering decisions.

DAILY

⭐️ AT THE START OF THE DAY, I will post daily and members will comment using this Mad Lib-style prompt below. Bonus points for sharing photos.
⭐ AT THE END OF THE DAY, please check in to give an update on how things went.

______ (day/time of day) I will declutter ___ (space) for ___ (time).
i.e. While I watch Wheel of Fortune I will declutter the papers in two file folders for 15 minutes.
i.e. After lunch around 12:30 pm, I will declutter the top right drawer of my desk for 10 minutes.

WEEKLY

⭐ AT THE START OF THE WEEK, we will share our goal.
⭐ AT THE END OF THE WEEK, we will share what we have learned.

Giant rummage sale at church last year of things people have decluttered:

Where are you in your decluttering journey? Do you have any decluttering tips or questions?

AN INVITATION

I will have our June group open until 6/3 (depending on the interest, I may have to limit spots available…I really want the group to serve its members). In July, I may be changing how I run these challenge groups. (If challenge groups aren’t your thing or you don’t have time for that, I shared a few resources recently HERE.)

    1. Hi Norma, I sent you a Facebook invitation to join the other day. Did you receive it?

  1. Yes, thank you. I have completed the questions. I have trouble finding things on facebook from time to time. I did not pick a buddy yet. Will work on that tomorrow.
    Take care.

    1. I think lots of people have trouble finding things on Facebook. They’re always changing things and moving things around. Glad you made it into the group. 🙂
