What I Read in August [2023]

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading about what I read each month because I’ve enjoyed reflecting on the books and writing these posts. I’m continuing my reading of the series, one book was on my to-be-read list, and one book was semi-random. (The books I read are all very different and that’s how I like my books. I don’t even always agree with some stuff in some books I read but they all make me think beyond my own thoughts.)

“I read for pleasure and that is the moment I learn the most.” ― Margaret Atwood

I frequently have friends ask me what I’m reading or what I recommend, so hopefully, these posts are helpful in giving you some ideas. If there’s a certain topic you’re looking for, let me know and I’ll see if I can direct you to a book. 🙂

Being a life-long learner and bookwormish means I read some pretty random things sometimes. I mean, if I run out of stuff, I read the backs of cereal boxes or car magazines. Sometimes it doesn’t even matter if it is stuff I agree with or not. I really think we can learn something from everything.

📚 *Prince Caspian

Since we had watched the movie not too long ago, I kept seeing the scenes of the movie as I read. There were a number of scenes that were different from the movie, especially the timing of when Prince Caspian meets Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy, and some of the action that happens between that time. I wasn’t finished reading it when my book was due back at the library. There were no available copies so I had to put it on hold and wait for another copy. But I finally finish!

📚 *A Rover’s Story

I didn’t know what to expect from this book but I heard from a few people that it was good. And it is. It took a bit for me to get into it because it starts out in the lab where they are doing tests on Res and another rover. I won’t give too much away but once they get into outer space, it becomes a page-turner. I love the two storylines that are happening throughout the book. One is the story of Res and what he’s doing in space. The other is about a human who is going through life stuff. You’ll have to read more to find out about how the human is.

📚 *Where to Start

This book is for teens but I enjoyed it. I wish this book existed when I was a teen decades ago. Even with the best group of humans, it can feel lonely. You think you’re the only one who feel a certain way. No one else feels safe to also share all their thoughts and feelings. It has journaling prompts/questions and lists of resources.

There you have it, this is what I read in August 2023. If I end up not continuing with these posts on the blog, you can always find them on my social media accounts. Follow along on my FB page and/or IG account.
