Uncluttered Reflections (week 5)

Hi! I am sharing weekly-ish how things are going in my decluttering journey these next two-ish months as I go through a clutter course. (I’ll share my thoughts after I’m done with the whole course.) Thanks for hanging out and reading my posts. I’d love to know how you’re doing and if you have any tips…about anything really!

Wardrobe

This has always been a challenging area for me. I really do not like shopping. A lot of my clothes are hand-me-ups. I also wear most of my clothes except for thick coats for winter and/or if we go to the snow or look at Christmas lights. I don’t necessarily love all the clothes I own but really, really, really do not want to try on clothes or spend money on clothes. I don’t mind it for myself but I feel like other people actually care more than I do about what I wear.

I did the backwards-hanger trick for the clothes in the closet so we’ll see what I actually wear in this next year and will rethink items that are on hangers that don’t get turned around. The only problem is that we don’t have enough hangers. Many hangers have two articles of clothing on them and the mismatched hangers give me a giant headache each time I see them. So I was thinking of getting more hangers for ease of seeing which ones get worn and flipped back around but I think I might just switch the clothes to double up on another hanger.

[repost from an earlier week] As you can see, it’s not perfect, it’s not all decluttered or even uncluttered, and it’s definitely not clean or organized. Because of my season of life, I don’t really want to spend time cleaning and organizing clutter that may or may not stay in our home AND my time and money are limited so I’m okay with working on small areas for short amounts of time for now. It’s slow progress but it’s progress and I’m happy with forward movement. Some is better than none. 👊

Lessons Learned

This week I learned that I have come a long way from when I first decluttered. I remember getting rid of a huge bag of clothes. Each time around to some of the same areas I have already worked on, there are fewer items to declutter and it is becoming more maintenance. It’s still a work-in-progress like I am but it’s getting better and we’re almost moving on to cleaning up some areas so we can organize.

Again, I’m learning that a little goes a long way and also to be more mindful of what we allow into our home in the future.

And it’s not something new that I learned last week but when Marie Kondo first came on the scene with her folding technique. I’ve forgotten how much more “tidy” it looks. It takes a little more time and it probably looks better with dividers but I’ll take any tidy I can get right now.

Are you on any decluttering journey? What’s it been like? What are you learning?
