What I’m Reading in July [Book List]

I frequently have friends ask me what I’m reading or what I recommend, so hopefully, these posts are helpful in giving you some ideas. If there’s a certain topic you’re looking for, let me know and I’ll see if I can direct you to a book. 🙂

UPDATE: Here’s My 2018 Book List >>> joycemoy.com/booklist2018 (monthly lists linked at the bottom of this post)

Being a life-long learner and bookwormish means I read some pretty random things sometimes. I mean, if I run out of stuff, I read the backs of cereal boxes or car magazines. Sometimes it doesn’t even matter if it is stuff I agree with or not. I really think we can learn something from everything. Soooo…I’m not sure there is ever a theme to each month’s books but…

Here’s my July Book List:

I’m very tempted to read all books by the same author again this month, but I know Sally will have some wisdom for me to dig into, so I’m limiting it to just two of her more recent books and an advanced copy of a cookbook. We’ll see how this goes… :p

📚 1) *The Lifegiving Home by Sally + Sarah Clarkson

I don’t think I do “home” and “parenting” all that well most days. I’m thankful for resources and encouraging people who come alongside me in various ways in this motherhood journey. Growing up, home was the safe place where we landed after a long day at school. We didn’t have much but we had enough and we had a place where we accepted despite ourselves. <3 I hope that our home could become such a place for my family and for those who enter its doors. I’m still a work-in-progress in this area.

I’ll also be skimming through *The Lifegiving Home Experience: A 12-Month Guided Journey by Sally + Joel Clarkson.

📚 2) *The Lifegiving Parent by Clay + Sally Clarkson

I know very few people who speak into the lives of younger women like Sally does. I usually hear more comments about “moms these days” not doing the right things or making the right decisions than the opposite. I know so many moms who are or who are trying their best. I think we are a generation to deal with many “firsts” in regards to digital and Internet-y things…not so much that computers didn’t exist back in the day, but our children have not known a life without screens and have easy access to technology. There are no “rules” to how this works. Sorry, that’s kind of a long sidenote to my choice of books this month, but all that to say I’m thankful for the Sallys out there. While she can’t fully “get” current-day motherhood, she understands it is harder for moms in some ways and offers grace and encouragement instead of judgment and guilt.

I’ll also be skimming through *The Lifegiving Parent Experience: A 10-Week Journey of Parenting for Life by Clay + Sally Clarkson.

📚 3) *Eat at Home Tonight by Tiffany King

If you know about my relationships with cooking and meal planning/prep, you’ll enjoy keeping up with me this summer as I check out some of the recipes in this book. That is all. :p
