World’s Toughest Job

When you were younger, were you asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” If you were, what was your answer? (Here’s Melody’s response in My Shifting Dreams.) Was it something that was glamorous or did it require lots of challenges? Did you want to do something where you were comfy pursuing your passions or was it a messy job? I distinctly remember three answers I gave – teacher (check!), journalist/magazine writer, and computer scientist (I’m not sure what that was at the time but I would be working with those new gadgets with the green screens!). When kids respond to this question I don’t think they would say they want the toughest job in the world.

I said, watch it please. :p Scroll back up and watch if you haven’t done so already. Sorry, I can be bossy sometimes.

If you ask me now what I want to be when I grow up, I don’t have an answer for you because I don’t really know. I already have the toughest job in the world, lots of moms do, dads do too…I have talked to so many people and we (both young and wiser) have come to the conclusion that this generation of moms has so many more challenges that did not exist a generation ago. And whether it is challenging because of our own expectations or other’s expectations of us, the reality is there are a hundred more decisions we are having to make that our moms didn’t have to make. I won’t make that an excuse for myself or anyone to not do my/our best (on most days anyway) for our kiddos. It’s a hard job and I’m thankful for it, even if it is mostly thankless.

A Blessed Role

Here’s to mamas and to those who stand in place of mamas who aren’t able to be there for their kiddos and to those who care for our kiddos as their own…y’all, it takes a village and I’m thankful for every “auntie” and “uncle” who is there for our girls.

More tissues…oh…I didn’t warn you ahead of time for the other one? Sorry about that.

And if Gifts is you or your Mama’s Love Language, most of my favorite mugs, journals, decor, jewelry, and cards are from Dayspring. Right now I’m diggin’ the stackable mug and teapot set. >>> *shrsl.com/wc3w

And….here’s another since you have that tissue handy already…

Do you have plans to celebrate a mom or two in your life?

Open to new members until May 3rd:

I have prepared a gathering place of sorts two years ago and was not brave enough to know what to do. I lost my brave along the way somehow and I want to find it again…along with so many other things.

Having heard the hearts of many mama friends, I think it is time.

I hope it will be a place of encouragement as well as learning, a place where you can find and give grace, a place of inspiration but also of accountability. I want to hear your story and help you take the next steps…or rather, let’s take some next steps together because I’m right there with ya. There are the must-dos of motherhood like laundry and meals and there are the wish-to-dos like personal retreats which I believe are so life-giving and everyone around us can benefit. And then how do we fit in things like trying new things, budgeting, taking adventures, emergency planning? Let’s figure this out together.

Please hear me out when I say this will not be “another thing for the to-do list.” If it starts to feel like that, you are free to come and go as the seasons change.

I may share Scripture and other Bible stuff here or there, but if you don’t consider yourself religious, that is okay. You are welcome to join. Or not. I’m not easily offended. But I do hope you find your own tribe of life-giving friends to love on you and lift you up.

  1. Being a mother is my greatest joy in life and I was so blessed to have a wonderful mother and Grandmothers as examples.
