What I’m Reading in May [Book List]

I frequently have friends ask me what I’m reading or what I recommend, so hopefully, these posts are helpful in giving you some ideas. If there’s a certain topic you’re looking for, let me know and I’ll see if I can direct you to a book. 🙂

05/04/18 Update: Dayspring has new items that are inspired by Candace’s new book Kind is the New Classy. Check it out here >>> *shrsl.com/xke5.

Being a life-long learner and bookwormish means I read some pretty random things sometimes. I mean, if I run out of stuff, I read the backs of cereal boxes or car magazines. Sometimes it doesn’t even matter if it is stuff I agree with or not. I really think we can learn something from everything. Soooo…I’m not sure there is ever a theme to each month’s books but…

Here’s my May Book List:

Yes, I do realize they are all Candace Cameron Bure books! I explain myself down below. :p

📚 1) *Reshaping It All by Candace Cameron Bure

I think I had this one my list last year but didn’t get around to it. With that crazy continual sickness+ that we had rotating through our family since November. Since then, I haven’t felt back to normal fitness-wise. I think it is such a misconception that because someone is thin that they don’t need to worry about fitness or health or wellness. While this is probably not the main issue Candace discusses in her book, I think it is a good point to bring up. It’s a different kind of struggle, but it’s definitely real. (Lots so say on this topic but it’s really never-ending, right? Another post for another day…) So I’m looking forward to her take on this from a more spiritual perspective.

+I had the sickness the longest and the worst. People asked us about going to the doctor, but it was just one of us getting sick, going out after the person recovered only to encounter many sick people, another one of us getting sick, going out to encounter many sick people…yet again…you get the picture. Again, maybe another post for another day…about public health and safety?

📚 2) *Kind Is the New Classy by Candace Cameron Bure

This one is Candace’s new book and I’m so thrilled for the topic. Life is already challenging and full as it is, but there are so many different “layers” added to it in recent years. With things beyond our control that can already bring us down, we shouldn’t add to it with being unkind. I love the quote I saw recently about compliments over competition. One of the main places I see people hurting one another is online because they are “hidden” behind a screen. On the other side is a real person with real feelings. If you’ve been around for awhile, you already know my thoughts about how great it can be to connect with others online. I also don’t think it is something we can avoid. For me personally, when someone posts something to celebrate, I am celebrating with them. I know others may see that as showing off, but I’m hoping the post-er’s intentions isn’t to show off but they are proud of an achievement or proud of their kiddo(s). It’s not always the case as I do see friends who seem to want to “one-up” someone else who just posted. My yes, it is quite apparent when it happens every single time. (Hmm…many posts for many other days… :p) Anyhow, I’m can’t wait to read Candace’s take on kindness. I definitely agree that it’s classy.

📚 3) *Staying Stylish by Candace Cameron Bure

This book was released right before Thanksgiving…right before the sickness. :p Emily was excited to read it with me and even though we did go through, I honestly have no recollection because of brain fog of waking up to give people medicine, etc. and being sick myself. I think it was lovely and she had some great tips, but I thought I would just throw this book into the mix since the other two are by Candace anyhow. 🙂

There you have it, my books for May 2018. Follow along on my FB page for some inspiring quotes or more of my thoughts as I read.

  1. I would love to win these books by Candace! She is such a classy and inspiring person!

  2. I loooove Candace (and her daughter Natasha!) I’ve watched/listened to her share her testimony and follow her pretty closely on Facebook…her faith and love for Jesus is real!! Did you know she has a heart for Japan? When I was serving in Tokyo with Cru she asked my friend if there was something she could do to help during the tsunami/earthquake disaster. (My friend used to work for her brother Kirk’s ministry). At that time we were in “survival” mode and couldn’t handle organizing anything but I was touched by her heart. Also I’ve read her Mom’s book which was also pretty incredible/real in it’s own way but I’ve never actually read any of Candace’s!!

In answer to your question, I just finished reading Unbroken Faith by Diane Dokko Kim and I’d highly recommend that book as well!

  3. Love the titles! Always looking for a good book to read, thanks for the recommendations.

  4. I would love to win Candace’s book! I follow her on Instagram and love her daily stories. I just finished reading The Magnolia Story by Joanna and Chip Gaines. I highly recommend it!
