What I’m Reading in June [Book List]

I frequently have friends ask me what I’m reading or what I recommend, so hopefully, these posts are helpful in giving you some ideas. If there’s a certain topic you’re looking for, let me know and I’ll see if I can direct you to a book. 🙂

UPDATE: Here’s My 2018 Book List >>> joycemoy.com/booklist2018 (monthly lists linked at the bottom of post)

Being a life-long learner and bookwormish means I read some pretty random things sometimes. I mean, if I run out of stuff, I read the backs of cereal boxes or car magazines. Sometimes it doesn’t even matter if it is stuff I agree with or not. I really think we can learn something from everything. Soooo…I’m not sure there is ever a theme to each month’s books but…

Here’s my June Book List:

Sooo…last month, all three selections were from the same author, and this month all three selections are not super similar in topic. My brain, people, this is why I drive people around me crazy and also why they drive me crazy. :p

📚 1) *You and Me Forever by Francis and Lisa Chan

This is a re-read from last year. If you think this is just a book about marriage, think again. Francis Chan is one of the authors so there’s that if you have ever heard him preach. More important than the title is the subtitle/tagline, which is “marriage in light of eternity.” It was more a skim for me last year, so I’d love to sit with some of the truths he and Lisa share about marriage from the Scriptures and how to better understand what that means for our relationships on earth.

📚 2) *Rethinking Incarceration by Dominique DuBois Gilliard

We’ve been having many conversations at our church about the different things that are happening in our world, past and present, near and far. This topic is one of them and I’m looking forward to learning about what has taken place and what we can do to move forward. I already know there’s no formula to fix things in a blink of an eye, and it’s a messy, complicated thing because we are a messy, complicated people, but people saved by grace and called to something greater.

📚 3) *Find Rest by Shaunti Feldhahn

I’m actually already about halfway through this book since I wrote a first impressions review of it. You can read the REVIEW HERE. It’s on a topic I have written about because I think our society (mostly here in the US from what I’ve seen, experienced, and heard about) is very caught up in “busy”…not even necessarily productive or effective but just finding things to do so we can feel some sense of accomplishment or importance? And I think it’s driving us to a very unhealthy place as a whole. Too many exhausted and mentally drained people who aren’t equipped, alert, or well enough to care for those in they’re responsible for or those in their community.

There you have it, my books for June 2018. Follow along on my FB page for some inspiring quotes or more of my thoughts as I read.

    1. It’s good! Some great reminders of why it is important to rest even in the midst of busyness.
