We are now almost halfway through my toss-together declutter challenge – The Great Declutter of 2019. Since some people didn’t get in before the group closed, I’m already scheming planning for the one I’ll host next month. I will probably declutter on my own through the rest of the year as needed, but I don’t have another one plan after that…at least not for awhile.
I was thinking of doing weekly recaps, but I don’t know that I have much to say after all these years of decluttering that hasn’t already been said. For more, you can always join one of my challenges. 😉 But it looks like you get another 2 lessons I have learned and some photos from this past week.
Lessons from Week 2
- Don’t just declutter because everyone else is or because there’s a certain show on right now about decluttering. 😉 (FYI, people have been folding clothes that way long before she started teaching it to everyone.) Having a great WHY behind your decluttering goals/plan will help you get through the challenging days. As I am reminding my group that they need to remember their WHY, I’m keeping myself in check to stay the course so that I can better serve and love those who come into my home instead of worrying about moving all the things around to make sure there is a seat or a table.
- Stating my plan for the day on a regular basis keeps me accountable to doing the work. When I check in with the group in the morning, we usually all let each other know what we will be working on that day, whether it’s decluttering for 5 minutes or 50 minutes, decluttering the living room or the garage (although I don’t think anyone has ventured in there yet!), decluttering a drawer or a whole bedroom.
Photos from Week 2
If you’ve seen some of my “organizing” posts on our old family blog back almost a decade ago, you’ll see that I’m really bad at before and after pics. I don’t always remember to take both or it’s from a completely different angle or the lighting is all wrong. Anyhow, if you came to our site for professional looking photos and posts, I’m sorry to inform you that you’re looking in the wrong place. :p I’m not much of a pro anything so I’m just sharing my reflections and happenings in my life.
I’m still continuing on a mash-up of the BINGO + Declutter Like a Mother challenge by Allie Casazza which is 30 minutes a day for 30 days in specific areas. But it’s really more of a freestyle in terms of days but I’m following along with areas for each week. This past week was supposed to be in the kitchen, but you’ll see I ventured into the office and kids randomly added things to the piles too. My group members are still crushin’ it and moving loads of stuff out of their house. And if not out of their house, things are finding their way home and something that makes for a less cluttered look.
Questions to Ponder
- What are you learning about yourself and/or your stuff as you declutter (or not declutter)?
- Do you need to tweak any part of your plan?
- Have you found any tips or tricks that others may find helpful?
