Unexpected

Anxiety. Fear. Depression. I’m not surprised that these are the common themes in some of today’s recent book releases. Through many conversations with friends and strangers, many people are feeling crushed by the weight of worry, and really sometimes, the weight of the world. We shouldn’t because we serve a God who is much bigger than all our troubles. He is a God who is in control. But we are bombarded by the news of mass shootings, bomb threats, government corruption, and the likes. Even though we don’t own a TV, we are not far from news of these happenings every day. I know the positive stories are out there, but they sure are a lot harder to find sometimes.

But when the unpredictable shakes our faith, we hide behind our defenses, trade our hope for fear, and end up living a smaller version of the grand story God wrote for us. Is it possible to not only expect the unexpected, but even embrace it?

Beauty in God’s Promises

Christine Caine is no stranger to the unexpected that we face as humans in this broken world in need of a life-giving Savior. She has faced many personal hurts, trials, and losses, but she has also overcome those difficult times, recognizing God as a trustworthy source of Hope and Love. Through this book, Christine helps us to prepare ourselves for the unexpected times and to trust in what is good in this world and in God’s plan for us. He has promised us grace. He has promised that He will never leave us nor forsake us. He has promised to be our help. He has promised to turn our mourning into gladness.

Encouragement through the Truth

In Unexpected, Christine shares her story of how she left fear behind in the dust to move her life forward into the adventures God put before her. It’s much easier said than done. It’s so much easier once it’s said and done. The stories of others remind me that God is ever-present and He is for us. Christine also shares the stories of some of her friends and points us to the stories of those who went before us in the Bible times. Scripture opens our eyes to God’s power and His leading. If we allow fear to swallow us up, we will never be used by Him to serve and love others well.
