Only One Life

If you love a good story, “*Only One Life: How a Woman’s Every Day Shapes an Eternal Legacy” is full of stories – 36 stories to be exact! Twelve stories are about women in the Bible, twelve stories are about women in history, and twelve stories about women making a difference today. No one goes into it declaring I want to win the Legacy Award, but when we find the role God wants us to play, we live out our days, our years, our lives with integrity, bravery, generosity, and honor, we can shape history.

No matter who you are, no matter what qualifications you feel you have or don’t have, we all have a few things in common: we have twenty-four hours in a day, and we have a desire for God to use our lives for His glory. That’s more than enough! So let’s be womenw ho get busy doing good with the time that we have.

Beauty in Legacies

Legacy is not a word I dwell on too often because it is not oftentimes used in everyday conversations but it sticks out in my mind if I come across it. It has stuck out since I first heard Nichole Nordeman’s song titled Legacy. I love this idea that someone’s life can make a beautiful and positive impact on so many others that it has a trickle-down effect leading to more beautiful and positive stories. The intentionality of people who live lives that make a difference can be seen in the big and small decisions they make. While I’m sure it’s not a checklist-type of intentionality, when we look at the lives of those people, we can see they chose to see the good in even the most challenging of circumstances. They persevered through hardships and difficult trials.

Encouragement through Legacies

I LOVE stories. Hearing the stories of others connect us with one another. *Only One Life is filled with stories of amazing women who lived extraordinary lives. I can guarantee if anyone were to ask them about the things they have done, they will say they were not extraordinary but they were just doing what anyone else would do. The truth is, that not everyone always chooses to do the next right things when times are hard. So to hear the accomplishments on these women from the Bible times, from the past, and even now in present-day, we can acknowledge the outstanding work they have done by stepping out in courage and be a little inspired to make a positive impact on those around us.

Your turn: Who has left a positive lasting impression on you? What legacy did this person leave to those around them?
